Israeli Doctors use 3D Printer to Rebuild Jaw of Soldier Shot in the Face

Professor Adi Rachmiel describes a surgical technique employing a model created on a 3D printer.

An IDF soldier was wounded during a firefight with Palestinian terrorists. When a bullet entered the left side of his face and exited from the right side of his jaw it shattered bone on both sides.

I24 news journalist Jeff Smith interviews Prof. Adi Rachmiel, director of the Oral and Facial surgical department of Rambam hospital in Haifa. His interview reveals the details of a two and a half hour surgery to reconstruct the soldier’s jaw.

The technique of using a 3D printed model of the damaged jaw is a new aid in reconstructive surgery and will help the soldier return to a normal life.
