Let My People Go

Let My People Go

Afterward, Moses and Aaron went and said to Pharaoh, “Thus says the God of Israel: Let my people go that they may celebrate a festival for Me in the wilderness.” But Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord that I should heed Him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, nor will I let Israel go.” - Exodus 5:1-2

That said, “let my people go” has undoubtedly become a spiritual theme song and battle cry for the Passover miracle still celebrated thousands of years later, and looking at the lyrics, it is not hard to see why considering the song encapsulates the spirit of divine deliverance from slavery in Egypt and a rather coldhearted pharoah.

When Israel was in Egypt’s land,
Let My people go!
Oppressed so hard they could not stand,
Let My people go!

(Refrain:)
Go down, Moses,
Way down in Egypt’s land;
Tell old Pharaoh
To let My people go!

The Lord told Moses what to do,
Let My people go!
To lead the children of Israel through,
Let My people go!

You need not always weep and mourn,
Let My people go!
And wear these slav’ry chains forlorn,
Let My people go!
