Israeli Baseball Player on Team's Olympic Debut

Global Eye news service interviews Jeremy Wolf, an outfielder for the Israeli Olympic baseball team.  Jeremy shares his appraisal of Team Israel’s capabilities and his hope that interest in baseball in his country will continue to grow.

 

The first game of baseball was played in the British Mandate of Palestine on July 4, 1927.  In recent years Israel has sent teams of varying age groups to international tournaments. Today nearly one thousand Israelis participate in amateur league competition.

In 1986 the non-profit Israel Association of Baseball (IAB) was formed to promote and develop baseball. Their task is to teach the game to Israeli youth, organize national tournaments, assist in international competition and to procure equipment and playing venues.  The first Israeli Olympic baseball team is the fruit of their labors.
