The History and Revival of the Hebrew Language

Intriguing video about the establishment of Hebrew as the modern spoken language of Israel.

Linguistics expert Ben-Yehuda is recognized as one of the influential individuals who restored the daily use of Hebrew. A language both ancient and new all at the same time, Hebrew didn’t have a published dictionary until 1959 – eleven years after the founding of the modern State of Israel.

“Hebrew’s rebirth returned a common language to an ancient people and its revival also helped lead to the miracle of Israel’s rebirth.” – Unpacked for Educators

Ben-Yehuda is considered to be one of the heroes of the modern State of Israel. His story is one of the founding corner stones of the new Jewish state.
