On Yom Kippur

This parody below reflects on the sentiments that some people struggle with the fasting aspect of Yom Kippur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar which focuses on such themes as repentance and atonement.

The Jewish people often observe a 25 hour fast at Yom Kippur. This frees individuals to spend the day in deep prayer and/or at synagogue services. The concept is that of “afflicting your soul” as part of the repentance process. Yet, of course, if there are medical conditions involved or it is a matter of life and death, fasting may not be for everyone and that is respected. However, those that can and are able often partake in this aspect of Yom Kippur and find it contributes to the spirituality of the day.
