As I write this, not only do I write it for you, but for me as well. This has been a particularly difficult week for me in many ways. Yet, I feel surges of hope; because without hope I would be crushed, and so would you. Tomorrow is Shabbat and that day brings with it tremendous hope!

Since I was a kid I loved Danish pastries, especially blueberry and prune, and I was always ecstatic about ice cream. If I had to choose between the two, ice cream would be my number one choice. My Mother used to tell me, "Maish, there isn't a container big enough as far as you're concerned, for ice cream." Mama loved me to pieces, but when it came to telling me the truth, she laid it on the line.

Since I was a kid I loved cream cheese. I also loved peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. My mother could never understand how I could like peanut butter? She said that she tried peanut butter once or twice, and just about couldn't open her mouth after eating it. Her comment was the Yiddish word for yuck, "Feh!" She said, "now, cream cheese is normal."
