The golden plover flies to the artic to mate and raise their baby birds. However, before their babies are old enough for a trip south, their parents take off for their own flight to South America.

In the Torah (Bible), we read “Then God said, ‘Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth’; and it was so.” Genesis 1:11.

Speaking personally, the iguana is not our favorite creature here in these sub-tropical Keys. Those reptiles enjoy bright and beautiful flowers—the hibiscus and bougainvillea—for example, as do we. We humans love to look at them, but iguanas love to eat them!

The pelican has a protection mechanism that is awesome! That skilled "fisherman" bird can dive from a 65-foot height, slam into the water, and scoop up a bag full of fish and-water into the built-in pouch he carries under his lower jaw. (That pouch can even contain 2 gallons of water filled with fish at one time!) Then the pelican will find a handy perch and let the water drain from the pouch before swallowing his catch of fish.

Foxes are one of the many animals mentioned in the Jewish Bible. Foxes are part of the dog family and can be rather small. With that in mind you can understand the greatness of the insult directed toward the Jewish people by the Samarians when they were trying to rebuild Jerusalem “… ‘What does this bunch of poor, feeble Jews think they’re doing?…Tobiah the Ammonite, who was standing beside him, remarked, ‘That stone wall would collapse if even a fox walked along the top of it! Then I prayed, ‘Hear us, our God, for we are being mocked. May their scoffing fall back on their own heads, and may they themselves become captives in a foreign land!’” Nehemiah 4:2-4

"There was loud disagreement going on. Maxine and Rainbow were perched far apart screeching at one another. For the sake of sanity in the mall it was time to remove both to our "time-out" area. Gene got the long pole with a cross bar at the top, just the size for two large birds to perch upon and be carried wherever needed.
