Archaeologists Find Egyptian Sphinx at Tel Hazor

I love archaeology and this video shows one of the reasons why.

We can still be surprised by our past that can confirm that our future points us towards it with stronger faith.  I believe this very unusual find of a ‘Sphinx’ that would have stood in a temple in Egypt for a 1000 year and then found so far north in Israel, of all places, does that very thing.

First of all, it was not a light object to travel so far; it’s feet alone were 100 lbs and they are believed to originate from modern Cairo. It was then gifted as a diplomatic gesture to the Canaanites in Hazor in northern Israel.

OK that’s not even the best part or even why it points us forward.  It sparks curiosity.  Who was King Menkaure and was he significant during that time in history.  Why did he want to be friends with the Canaanites.   It also points forward because if it is yet another historical story that aligns with the Bible and then we can trust the rest. If the Bible doesn’t point you towards the future, I don’t know what would.  It all comes back to the Bible and its historical significance and accuracy.  It lines up with the story in the Bible about Hazor and what happened there (Joshua 11).

The one thing archaeologists agree with here is that there was a massive fire. You’ll have to read Joshua to know why that matters.  Lastly, I want to say that if you are someone like me who loves finding treasure that tells a story about people, you are going to love what I didn’t know. You don’t have to be a studied archaeologist to be on a dig site hunting for the next piece.  You can be a volunteer.  Hmm, maybe I’ll try to see if I can find the next piece of our past which is our future.  Signing out for now Raindrop.
