Yesterday Matters
Not published yet“Celebration of Life” services can be a time for reflection and can give attendees a sense of joy in knowing the person being honored. I attended one of these services for a friend and found it a time for contemplation for a life well lived. The stories told spoke of a husband who loved his family. The kids described their lives growing up in a way that made me feel honored to know this man of God. When I attend such services, it almost makes me wish to die the day after my funeral so I can hear from the people who meant the most to me that my life was not lived in vain.
God's Favor Factor
Not published yetWhat a lady Dr. Eugenie Clark was! She was a fearless ichthyologist and oceanographer who kept diving even into her nineties. She passed away February, 2015 at 92. During her stint as an underwater explorer for more than 50 years, she had close encounters with sea creatures such as a gigantic squid and a 500-pound giant clam. She swam with a school of man-eating barracudas and even hitched a ride on the back of a 50-foot whale shark. Dr. Clark wrote of these experiences in dozens of magazine articles, books, and documentaries, beginning with her first best-selling book in 1953 entitled, Lady with a Spear.
Financial Advice from the Torah for Special Occasion Spending
Not published yetWe all know how important it is to live within our means, but when special events come up, things can be really stressful. Often on special occasions such as birthdays, weddings, graduations, holidays, and milestones, there is a lot of pressure to go above and beyond what we would normally spend in order to prove how special the time is for us.
“He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes will live” ( Proverbs 15:27). How do these words of wisdom apply to a happy financial situation? Well there are many ways we can hurt our household by being greedy for gain. Sometimes in our lust for material things we can attempt to live beyond our means and put our family in a poor situation.
Sticker shock!!
It seems that every time you walk into a supermarket or a retail store, you see that the prices of everyday items are not going up a few cents every year, but a few cents every week. It has been reported that over the last two years, while home prices have plummeted, the cost of food items has increased 30 percent.
Are you a procrastinator? You are not alone. In one study, 90 percent of individuals procrastinated on at least one occasion and a quarter of them chronically put things off for another day. You might have also pondered all the excuses in the world not to complete the report, the project, or the assignment today.
