Discoveries at City of David

This video takes you on a tour to see the ancient City of David, if you are not familiar with David, he is one of the most popular or at least well-known of the Kings mentioned in the Bible. This is probably in part because of his cool backstory. Who doesn’t love a classic rags to riches type tale? Also, he was one of the first kings which in itself is enough to make him stand out. He started off as a shepherd, which in those days was probably one of the humblest professions one could have. And on top of that he didn’t even seem to be a very liked shepherd either despite the great lengths he went to protect the sheep from predators.

His own father seemed to greatly underestimate him or something because when the prophet came to anoint one of his sons to be king after the first king failed to obey God David wasn’t even included in the event initially and had to be called in later.  If you want to read more about David to get a better idea of how the discoveries in this video connect to the history of Israel you can find some extra details in 1 Samuel 16 and you can often find chapters of the Bible to read or even listen to online for free if you don’t have a physical Bible. But even if you don’t have the full backstory, you can still appreciate a lot of what this video has to say about archaeological findings and how different layers of the earth can reveal what life was like in different time periods.

Just as digging deeper can help provide a clearer understanding of things that happened in the past, thinking deeper can too. Concepts that we may feel right to dismiss based on our limited surface level knowledge may actually be far more believable as we dig deeper through our own biases and assumptions in a goodwill search of some solid logical reasoning underneath.  It is not just important to learn about the past for its own sake, having context helps us understand the present which in turn can aid us in making better decisions in the future.
