Tu B’Shevat
Sermon by Messianic Rabbi Jeff Zaremsky.

Tu B’Shevat is a Holy Day which occurs on the 15th day of Shevat. This Holy Day is also called “The New Year of Trees.” The name of the Holy Day derives from טו and בשבט where characters טו play a role of a number (tet and vav together give 15).

Tu B’Shevat is mentioned in the Mishna, which highlights its importance,

“There are four new years: the first day of Nisan is the new year for kings and festivals; the first day of Elul is the new year for tithing cattle. R. Eleazar and R. Simeon say, “It is on the first day of Tishre.” The first day of Tishre is the new year for the reckoning of years, for Sabbatical years, and for Jubilees, for planting trees and for vegetables; the first day of Shebat is the new year for trees, in accord with the opinion of the House of Shammai. The House of Hillel say, “On the fifteenth day of that month is the new year for trees.” (Mishna. Translated by Jacob Neusner)

For all friends of Shalom Adventure Rabbi Jeff Zaremsky prepared a special Tu B’Shevat gift.
