Eight Days a Week

This is another Hanukkah song about sharing your inner light eight nights a week. Some may find it fun and silly but there is an important message in it about consistency. It may be easy to put up a fake persona of being a good person for a few hours or a couple of days but it is harder to let your light shine long term. While most of us already know it is important to be sincere and not pretend to be something we are not there are times we might not even notice we are pretending.

“To the angel of the Messianic Community in Laodicea, write: ‘Here is the message from the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the Ruler of God’s creation: “I know what you are doing: you are neither cold nor hot. How I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm, neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of my mouth! For you keep saying, ‘I am rich, I have gotten rich, I don’t need a thing!’ You don’t know that you are the one who is wretched, pitiable, poor, blind and naked! My advice to you is to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich; and white clothing, so that you may be dressed and not have to be ashamed of your nakedness; and eye salve to rub on your eyes, so that you may see.” Revelation 3:14-18

Sometimes we think we are doing better than we actually are because we are surrounded by and participating in a community that spiritually gaslights itself into thinking they are in a much better standing with God than we actually are in reality. It is easy to rationalize moral short comings to yourself when you are sometimes in God’s will but not fully. But not being fully in God’s will is not really God’s will for us at all. But the tricky part is, that when are in the dark for
a long time our eyes adjust to darkness so we feel more comfortable with it and that in turn makes even a little light feel much brighter than it actually is and the same is true spiritually. We can adjust to moral darkness and think how well we can currently see is good enough and settle for far less than we should. We need to be very careful that we are not deceiving ourselves into thinking we are reflecting God’s character far more than we actually are and always be willing to learn and do better instead of letting ego get in the way. As you listen to the song remember that we need to feel our need for God not just one day a week or a few but all the time. We need to let God’s light shine.
