Torah-Cursed Blessings

Torah-Cursed Blessings

The Jewish Bible gives us a serious warning, "'And now, O priests, this commandment is for you.  If you will not hear, and if you will not take it to heart, to give glory to My name,' Says the Lord of hosts, 'I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have cursed them already, because you do not take it to heart. Behold, I will rebuke your descendants and spread refuse on your faces, the refuse of your solemn feasts; and one will take you away with it.  Then you shall know that I have sent this commandment to you, that My covenant with Levi may continue,' Says the Lord of hosts.

'My covenant was with him, one of life and peace, and I gave them to him that he might fear Me; so he feared Me and was reverent before My name.  The law of truth was in his mouth, and injustice was not found on his lips. He walked with Me in peace and equity, and turned many away from iniquity. For the lips of a priest should keep knowledge, and people should seek the law from his mouth; for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts. But you have departed from the way; you have caused many to stumble at the law. You have corrupted the covenant of Levi,' Says the Lord of hosts. 'Therefore I also have made you contemptible and base before all the people, because you have not kept My ways but have shown partiality in the law.'" Malachi 2:1-9

This is a very serious passage.  We must be careful not to show partiality in obedience God's commandments and lend others astray by our example. Without God all of our blessings are cursed since there is nothing really good or worthwhile without God in our lives. We need to take God's words to heart and read what God says truthfully. It is extremely important not to water down the truth or pick and choose which things in the Bible we want to obey for convenience or out of fear of offending people. As believers it is our responsibility to turn others away from a life of evil.

"'So you, son of man: I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear a word from My mouth and warn them for Me. When I say to the wicked, "O wicked man, you shall surely die!" and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand.  Nevertheless if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.'" Ezekiel 33:7-9

God holds us accountable for the spiritual well being of others and not warning others of the dangers of living in an evil way. God expects us to take this seriously. "You have wearied the Lord with your words; yet you say, 'In what way have we wearied Him?' In that you say, 'Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the Lord, and He delights in them,' Or, 'Where is the God of justice?'" Malachi 2:17 You cannot sugar coat evil and expect to be blessed. It is not true love for God or others that promotes the covering up or the ignoring of sin. It is not kindness be slack regarding obedience to God "'For the day of the Lord upon all the nations is near; as you have done, it shall be done to you; your reprisal shall return upon your own head.'" Obadiah 1:15. Any peace we think to gain from easing our conscience or the consciences of others with falsehood will lead to destruction and the supposed blessings we thought to gain will be curses. So be truthful in your relationship with God now. Share whole truth with others and live the whole truth yourself.
