Israel Sees Color

Sometimes we may take our ability to see in color for granted without thinking much of it, but life could be pretty dull (literally) if we struggled with complete color blindness or could only see very faint muted colors.

But Israel is working on ways that may help at least some of those with color blindness be able to see the colors around them better.

Israeli scientists have created contacts that can correct a type of color blindness that impacts the ability to see red and green, known as deuteranomaly. Although it is not complete color blindness it can still cause inconveniences that most may not think like making it harder to determen if a fruit is ripe enough to eat before tasting it and so on. It is said that the ability to distinguish color can be increased ten times by using the metasurfaces in the contacts Israeli scientists are experimenting with. They are optimistic that because the visual device for the color blindness is so small the contact lenses would not be limited to only helping color blindness but could be used to help with other vision problems at the same time. (Mlot, Stephanie 2020)

While most of us do not have color blindness in the physical realm we all have less than prefect vision in the spiritual realm. “Our knowledge is incomplete and our ability to speak what God has revealed is incomplete. But when what is complete comes, then what is incomplete will no longer be used. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, thought like a child, and reasoned like a child. When I became an adult, I no longer used childish ways. Now we see a blurred image in a mirror. Then we will see very clearly. Now my knowledge is incomplete. Then I will have complete knowledge as God has complete knowledge of me.” 1 Corinthians 13:9-12

Because our knowledge is limited, we should remain humble and teachable while also being careful not to judge the work of God in the lives of others with our incomplete knowledge. “Yeshua took the blind man’s hand and led him out of the village. He spit into the man’s eyes and placed his hands on him. Yeshua asked him, ‘Can you see anything?’ The man looked up and said, ‘I see people. They look like trees walking around.’ Then Yeshua placed his hands on the man’s eyes a second time, and the man saw clearly. His sight was normal again. He could see everything clearly even at a distance.” Mark 8:23-25 From this example we can see that just because someone doesn’t see perfectly doesn’t mean that they have not really experienced the touch of Yeshua in life. Spiritual growth is a progress.

God also says through the Jewish prophet Isaiah, “I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.” Isaiah 42:16 So we can see that even if someone can’t see at all, even complete blindness isn’t proof that God is not leading that person in the right direction. When the Messiah comes both physical and spiritual sight will be made better. We can’t even image how much more colorful and wonderful life will be, “But as Scripture says: ‘No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him.’” 1 Corinthians 2:9 In the meantime patience with others.
