My Personal Passover Story

My Personal Passover Story

Growing up in a Kosher- kept home, Passover was always a very special time for me. Family was coming and the house was being prepared. Spring cleaning was done with zest as if we were preparing for a visit of the king. It was a time filled with the joy of anticipation.

All the things we used for 51 weeks, dishes and silverware, pots and pans, were replaced with our special Passover possessions.

We rid ourselves of the bread made with yeast and brought in the bread made in haste as we fled from slavery. Matzah – what a treat.

I knew the history – we Jews were enslaved by a wicked ruler and our powerful G-d performed miracles, which were nasty plagues, to convince him to let us go.

We read the same story every year. I knew the story by heart – could recite each plague. Thanks to the movie “the Ten Commandments” I can picture Moses standing on a rock lifting his arms and the Red Sea parting.

I thought I knew it all and then I met Yeshua. Then I understood the true meaning of Passover is preparing to meet the King of the Universe. He did not give us freedom from the hard work of slavery; Yeshua offers freedom from bondage to sin, freedom not to sin now and in the future, and He offers me freedom from the sins of my past. He blots out my past and grants me a new life to walk with Him.
