Rod for Rod

Rod for Rod

I will be discussing the 10 plagues that  G-d sent down by his judgment while at the same time protecting the Children of Israel and compare the Most High G-d with the ineffectual gods of the Egyptians. They were living in the land of Goshen at that time, which was given to the Children of Israel by the Pharaoh ruling at the time of Yosef. (Joseph)

Exo 7:5  And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.

G-d could have crushed Egypt in the palm of His hand at any time He chose. Still, after each time Moses had entreated G-D He would show the Egyptians mercy. Yes G-D also loved the Egyptians.

Exo 7:7  And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh.

Moses and Aaron were told ahead of time just what Pharaoh was going to do and say to them and how they should respond. As is evident here and throughout the Holy Scriptures, if we stand on G-d commands, He will more than provide and advise.

Exo 7:8  And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

Exo 7:9When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent.

Exo 7:11  Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments.

Exo 7:12  For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods.

The effect of the serpents being swallowed up by Aaron's rod was the swallowing up of their god of enchantments and magic, the god thoth.  By casting down the rod, Aaron showed Pharaoh that his gods where no match for the G-d of Israel, and neither was he, considered a god on earth. Pharaoh had no power over the Children of Israel.
