Ha Tikvah: Does Israel's National Anthem Mean Hope for All?

This video presents a brief history of the controversial origins of the national anthem of Israel – the HaTikvah (The Hope).

Israel struggles with the tension between its own identity as a Jewish state and those of diverse cultures who live within its borders.  This tension is reflected in a national debate about cultural inclusion amid the lyrics of Israel’s national anthem.

Is cultural inclusion a good idea or is it like adding too many spices during food preparation?  Too many spices may confuse the palate and dilute a unique flavor.   The origins and adoption of the HaTikva are as complex and diverse as the people of Israel.  The Jewish web site UNPACKED reveals the history of the anthem’s controversy.
