Getting Annoyed with God

Getting Annoyed with God

I was working on an important task on the computer that I needed to complete and then the electricity went out.

That is annoying enough in itself, but just a few days before I missed out on an important opportunity because of other computer issues. And before that my health was getting in the way of my being able to focus and do what needed to be done. So I was really annoyed. Why is it that when I want to I feel too sick to function well things work and when I feel better other things are too messed up to work?

I hate this. I really do. So in my frustration with life in general I felt some anger building up toward God. But of course I realized I couldn't really afford to be angry at Him. After all, God is God and if I am to make it in this life - never mind the next - I need His help. But that isn’t a good reason to tag along with Him. It didn’t seem right to hold onto God purely out of need when I was angry at him; it seemed like manipulation and an abuse of power for God to want me to obey him when there were no better options.

But why was I annoyed at God? Sure I may have thought on a few occasions it would be stupid to be born with certain issues and develop certain issues later on while dealing with other life issues, but is it really God’s fault? Nope. As I thought about it I realized the importance of being careful about what perceptions of God are planted in your mind. I normally never hated God for anything even with abuse and other bad things. However after one major disappointment with a minister of God I blamed God for what the minister did. It seemed rational to blame God for whatever the man of God did at the time, and after that it became very easy to blame God for other things, because that other wound from that bad experience wasn’t dealt with.

If you don’t address certain emotional issues it can carry over into unrelated problems and make you walk with God more difficult. David in the Bible said, “I have stinking, festering wounds because of my foolishness.” Psalm 38:6 However, he also said, “Adonai is rebuilding Yerushalayim, gathering the dispersed of Isra’el. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:2-3. You have to let God clean out the bad thoughts that have infected your pain and rebuild you when you are broken.

“But Tziyon says, ‘Adonai has abandoned me, Adonai has forgotten me. ’Can a woman forget her child at the breast, not show pity on the child from her womb? Even if these were to forget, I would not forget you. I have engraved you on the palms of my hands, your walls are always before me.” Isaiah 49:14-16 “In all their troubles he was troubled; then the Angel of His Presence saved them; in his love and pity he redeemed them. He had lifted them up and carried them throughout the days of old.” Isaiah 63:9 “’Come now,’” says Adonai, ‘let’s talk this over together. Even if your sins are like scarlet, they will be white as snow; even if they are red as crimson, they will be like wool.’” Isaiah 1:18

If you don’t talk with God when you are hurting, your whole relationship with God will be spoiled. If you are annoyed with God about something talk to Him about it. Remember that God isn’t up there just doing random things; God is emotionally affected by your pain too. If you are hurting, God is too. “’Do you people think that I am some local deity and not the transcendent God?’ the Lord asks.” Jeremiah 23:23 Ask God to help you view Him better instead of hating God for allowing problems or accusing him of injuring you when things go wrong. God wants to be part of your life. When life is annoying God understands, when you are upset God is too.
