This song is about Tikkun Olam which is a Jewish concept of making the world better by cooperating with God’s will that we should be aware of. Although Yeshua said to pray like this “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10 ironically, I have found it seems extremely common for professed believers in Yeshua to compartmentalize their religion from their life as if what happens on earth doesn’t matter as long as heaven is good. But if you are actually following the will of God you will seek to live out the values of God in your life now. For example, if you don’t think people are starving in God’s kingdom you shouldn’t be at peace with people starving on earth.
“For whoever keeps the whole Torah but stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all. For the one who said, ‘Do not commit adultery,’ also said, ‘Do not commit murder.’ Now if you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the Torah. So speak and act as those who will be judged according to a Torah that gives freedom. For judgment is merciless to the one who does not show mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment. What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone says he has faith, but does not have works? Can such faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in shalom, keep warm and well fed,’ but you do not give them what the body needs, what good is that? So also faith, if it does not have works, is dead by itself.” James 2:10-17
The Torah is supposed to give freedom and lead to a practical concern for others. Caring about what happens on earth is not an unspiritual thing, it is spirituality. “Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.” James 1:27 The faith that God acknowledges as real is a faith that makes a real difference, not the faith of those who just attended Sabbath service and verbally share what God they claim to worship is like but don’t seek to fully embody the way of God in their life. Let us have a faith that makes a difference, not just claim to believe in God while acting nothing like the sort of people God wants us to be.
